With just over a year until the Winter Olympics, where it will host both men’s alpine skiing events and ski mountaineering’s Olympic debut, Bormio prepares for a crucial winter season. Winter is fast approaching, and with it, the\u00a033rd stage of the<\/strong>\u00a0Men’s AUDI FIS Ski World Cup<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0Bormio<\/strong>, on the steep and iconic\u00a0Stelvio slope<\/strong>, the same that, in just over a year, will host the men’s alpine ski events of the\u00a0Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics<\/strong>. As tradition dictates, the world’s elite speed specialists will return to the Stelvio – often called the Teatro alla Scala of alpine skiing – for\u00a0downhill<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0super-G<\/strong>\u00a0races on\u00a0December 28<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a029<\/strong>.<\/p>

The season brings another milestone as Bormio hosts its first\u00a0Ski Mountaineering World Cup<\/strong>\u00a0(February 21-23, 2025<\/strong>). The competition will utilize the lower section of the Stelvio slope, previewing the venue where the sport will make its\u00a0Olympic debut<\/strong>\u00a0at Milano-Cortina 2026.<\/p>

A significant change marks Bormio’s winter season as race organization returns to local hands. After years under\u00a0Italian Winter Sports Federation<\/strong>\u00a0(FISI) management, the Men’s AUDI FIS Alpine Ski World Cup events in Alta Valtellina will now be operated by a local committee. The newly established\u00a0Fondazione Bormio<\/strong>\u00a0will oversee not only the World Cup races and ski mountaineering test event but also serve as the local organizing body for the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Games.<\/p>

Fondazione Bormio aims to uphold the technical excellence that has established the Stelvio as a classic venue on the Men’s World Cup circuit while integrating local expertise to make these sporting events an integral part of Bormio’s dynamic identity – a destination that excels both on and off the slopes.<\/p>

This journey begins with the 2024 AUDI FIS Alpine Ski World Cup, the first of two editions leading to Milano Cortina 2026, where the Stelvio slope will host all men’s alpine skiing disciplines.<\/p>

Following last season’s victories by\u00a0Cyprien Sarrazin<\/strong>\u00a0in downhill and\u00a0Marco Odermatt<\/strong>\u00a0in super-G, the world’s fastest skiers return in December to tackle the iconic features of the Stelvio: the jumps of\u00a0Rocca<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0San Pietro<\/strong>, the legendary\u00a0Carcentina<\/strong>, and the final\u00a0Konta<\/strong>\u00a0wall.<\/p>

The program opens on\u00a0Thursday, December 26<\/strong>, with the\u00a0first timed training session<\/strong>, followed by\u00a0second training<\/strong>\u00a0on\u00a0Friday, December 27<\/strong>. The traditional\u00a0public bib draw<\/strong>\u00a0takes place at 6:00 PM in Piazza Cavour.<\/p>

The\u00a0downhill race<\/strong>\u00a0headlines\u00a0Saturday, December 28<\/strong>, with the\u00a0super-G<\/strong>\u00a0following on\u00a0Sunday, December 29<\/strong>.<\/p>
