Cross-country skiing, skialp and freeride are other enticing snow offerings, and for summer a world opens up if you’re a bike enthusiast. If at the end of the day your physique asks you for some relaxation, you can always delight yourself with a run in the thermal waters of Bormio Terme, a typical Valtellina dinner or a walk in the historic center.

La VALDIDENTRO conquers you like this: in winter with a spectacular cross-country ski run, in summer between mountain bike trails at the Cancano Lakes and nature walks in Val Viola. Skiing in the middle of summer: from wish to reality

Bormio, Valfurva, Valdidentro, Valdisotto, Sondalo are the beating heart of the Bormio area!

If you are in that of Bormio, from the thought is quickly done! The largest summer ski area in the Alps awaits you: the Stelvio Glacier ski area!

From the 3,450 meters of Mount Cristallo to the 2,758 meters of the Stelvio Pass, you can treat yourself to some great skiing even on August bank holiday. And with what a view! All around you, in all their majesty, you have the peaks of the Ortles-Cevedale Group towering in the Stelvio National Park.

The history of skiing on the Stelvio glacier has its roots in the 1950s when the first ski lift was opened, and from the mid-1960s with the completion of the infrastructure it began to have a major influx also supported by the rise of ski schools. Many families took advantage of this to take lessons and prepare for the winter skiing week.

Even today, every summer the slopes of the Stelvio glacier welcome many tourists and others. Also peeping out here are the top athletes in Alpine and Nordic skiing, who have always taken advantage of the glacier’s splendid snow offerings to keep their off-season training. Four ski areas to satisfy every snow sportsman

From alpine skiing to snowboarding, from ski touring to freeriding, from cross-country skiing to snowshoeing and sledding trails. The range of activities on offer leaves you spoilt for choice among the 4 ski areas: Bormio, Santa Caterina Valfurva, Cima Piazzi/San Colombano and the Stelvio Glacier!

A Santa Caterina Valfurva you can:

Bormio 360 Adventure Trail

Saddle up on your MTB to experience the thrill of a high-altitude loop that runs between 837 meters and 2,462 meters above sea level in an up and down that will test your muscles! Passing through Valdidentro, Valfurva, Valdisotto and Sondalo, this route traverses wild valleys, dirt mule tracks, paved roads and scenic spots, giving you spectacular views.

And if two wheels are not your thing, put on your hiking boots and explore it backpacking and spotting scope around your neck!

There are a total of10 stages that also allow you to deepen your knowledge of the area from various aspects: historical, naturalistic, cultural and ethnographic. Two examples among all, the Water Trail that connects the thermal baths with the Cancano dams and Fraele towers and the Ice Trail from Malga dell’Alpe to Forni.

Bike World: MTB, e-bike and road-bike

Stelvio, Mortirolo and Gavia. Yes, these passes are waiting for you, riding your bike to test yourself on extreme climbs that will give you indescribable emotions! It will be a challenge of head and legs that will bring out all the grit and energy in you.

If it’s not so much road trails but dirt trails that inspire you, you can choose between freeriding and downhill in the Bormio Bike Park and natural Enduro trails in Santa Caterina. Or even explore the Stelvio Park on MTB and gravel trails.

And if you’re with your family and children, you have easy bike paths in the Bormio valley floor.

600 km of trails and hiking routes

Exploring the mountains inside a National Park is not something you do every day, and the thrills it gives awaken all the senses. The scent of the forest, the sound of water in the streams, the roaring of the deer, and the immensity of nature as far as the eye can see will captivate you whether you go out for a workout or hike with your family.

Classic routes include scenic walks in Val Zebrù and Val Viola, along the wild Rezzalo Valley and in the Braulio Valley, or even on the high glaciological trail in the Forni Valley. At Passo Stelvio and around Val Cedec and Passo Gavia, you can dive between trenches to discover the remains of the Great Gerra.
